Detailed access controls

Unternehmensberatung Konrad Schneider GmbH has extended its Car_O logistics software with an additional module that regulates the freely configurable access controls on the basis of data content.

The "Virtual Private Database (VPD)" model in the Oracle Database is the core element of this feature. VPD is based on the idea that the control mechanism for accessing individual lines of a table ideally is directly with the data, and every access automatically activates this control mechanism. Use of this access control is as easy as it is flexible. The application's administrator defines the rules for the access to the data per user (or user group) and database

This concept provides business partners, for example, with a direct access to the company-internal logistics system. The policy function ensures that only the information that is specified for them is visible.

A display control on the basis of data content is planned in the next development level, which means that database fields will actually be visible for defined users or user groups, but the content of these fields will not be displayed.
